The American Kennel Club (AKC) uses their registration statistics to rank the most popular breeds of the year. It’s the world’s largest registry of purebred dogs, so popular mixes and mutts are not included (no Labradoodles, Puggles, Morkies, or other popular “designer” hybrids).

How Did The Frenchie Take The Title?

In 2012, the Frenchie was ranked at number 14. But over the last 10 years, their registrations have increased by over 1,000%. Now, French Bulldogs are the most prevalent purebred dog. Not only are they affectionate and absolutely adorable, but their small size lends well to living in apartment buildings and tiny dwellings. 

Plus, social media influencers, celebrity owners, and the fact that a French Bulldog won last year’s National Dog Show have all contributed to their rise in popularity.
